14 Jul Writing by Design Earns Creative Awards for third year in a row
Writing by Design recently won three Hermes Creative Awards – two Gold and an Honorable Mention – in the 2021 Hermes Creative Awards competition for work it completed for two of its clients, as well as for its own brand marketing. This marks the third consecutive year Writing by Design has earned top honors, enhancing its reputation as a small-but-mighty agency that consistently delivers big results.
The international competition, administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals, recognizes excellence in the concept, writing and design of traditional and emerging media.
“I’m thrilled to see our marketing team’s work be recognized with three Hermes Creative Awards,” said Patti Purcell, owner of Writing by Design. “The two gold awards we received this year are particularly meaningful, because it involved helping clients overcome challenges related to the pandemic. We take great pride in knowing we made a positive impact during such a difficult time.”
Writing by Design earned a Gold Award in the Strategic Program/Pandemic Response category for its work with LiftFund’s Women’s Business Center of Dallas (WBC), a nonprofit small business lender. Writing by Design assisted the WBC in creating a variety of educational materials for minority-owned small businesses in the Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio areas for its Covid-19 Business Resiliency Program. The two-month project involved animating and producing bilingual educational training videos, developing handouts and tip sheets; ideating, writing and designing a 24-page Covid-19 survival guide; and scripting and developing an awareness-building explainer video and promotional flyer.
Writing by Design won a second Gold Award in the Strategic Programs/Virtual Event category for its work with St. Mary Catholic Schools in Neenah, Wisconsin. The agency was tasked with helping announce that the school’s largest annual fundraising event, Zephyrfest, was switching to a virtual format due to COVID-19 in 2020. With just two weeks to raise awareness, Writing by Design implemented a strategic email marketing campaign which included issuing a Constant Contact newsletter every other day in tandem with coordinated Facebook posts. The effort resulted in engaging nearly 500 virtual attendees who contributed a record-setting $568,000 for the school system.
Writing by Design also earned an Honorable Mention in the Print Media, Marketing Collateral/Branding Holiday Card category for the design of their 2020 holiday card. The four-fold Thanksgiving-themed card featured a heartfelt thanks to clients for supporting the agency throughout COVID-19 with their continued business, a thoughtful message to remain grateful in tough times, traditional family recipes from staff and a cut-out holiday ornament.
