New Year, New Space, New Offerings: An inside look at what’s in store for Writing by Design in 2020 and beyond

The first month of the year is notoriously filled with lots of changes.

People across the globe make commitments to themselves (and sometimes accountability partners) to make changes to their diets, to achieve goals, shift their perspectives, and more. They develop or adopt mantras like, “new year, new me,” “it’s my time” and “make it happen,” to keep themselves motivated and their eyes set on sticking to their new year plan.

The most common goals people set involve improving their health (through exercise, weight loss and eating better), finances and relationships. And entering a new decade truly is a great time to make changes and invest in yourself.

This year is a big one for Writing by Design too (and we’re not talking about our own New Year’s resolutions).

New space, same great people

Co-workers Jo Phillip (left) and Jess Lisbeth (right) show excitement as they get settled into the new space.

On Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, we officially opened our doors at 5555 W. Grande Market Drive, Suite E, in Appleton. While we will miss our great neighbors at the Appleton Regus shared office space, we are new neighbors and share office space with the BAKA Core Training Center (CTC), which offers DHS 83 Wisconsin State-Approved Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) courses. We stumbled upon this similarly priced office space that we could have all to ourselves and would allow for improved collaboration in a more open workspace to better serve our growing list of clients. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity that practically fell in our laps by chance and good luck.

The best part? We more than tripled our office space—giving us the ability to bring our team together in one large open space ideal for collaboration (versus how we previously were split into separate offices) and extra space for team and client meetings as well. We negotiated a very minimal cost increase from what we were paying for our old space, keeping us true to our lean and efficient model (so we can then pass on leaner pricing to our clients!). There are no tree houses here, no wet bars and no frills, but we definitely have a bright, new collaborative space from which to work and couldn’t be happier!

Expanding our offerings to serve clients into the new decade and beyond

A new office isn’t the only thing we’re bringing with us into the new year… we’re also officially opening our doors as more than just a writing agency.

While we’ve been serving our clients’ marketing communications needs—from producing radio ads and videos to developing digital and printed newsletters and more—for years, we’ve officially decided to call ourselves a marketing communications agency. We’re continuing to build on the same great service and offerings we’ve been providing our clients for years, with a focus on enhancing and building our creative offerings to include graphic design, video production and more.

We’re still committed to our same approach—strategy first.

While our offerings are expanding, we’re still the same Writing by Design you’ve come to know and love. Our projects start with a collective team ideation session before diving into any writing or creative work (because more heads are always better than one of course!). Until we know the “why” behind your communication need, we wait to lay pen to paper, and do so only when we have a clear understanding of how to solve that communication need for you. We also include multiple check-ins and a robust project management system to keep projects on track and delivered on time.

2020 is OUR year to serve our clients

The decisions to make our exciting changes for 2020—moving to new digs and expanding service offerings—weren’t made lightly. After much consideration, research, and most importantly, a focus on how this would positively impact our clients (and potential new clients), we set our sights on making 2020 our best year and decade yet! And who knows, maybe we’ll have another exciting announcement to share in 2020 (after all, we need a company name that matches our new “more-than-just-a-writing-agency” business model).

We’d love to hear from you! Tell us about your goals or planned changes in the new year.
